Sunday saw the Under 13s give a brilliant team performance with the resulting win, against one of the league's top 2 teams, being the prefect and just reward.

It was a fantastic match.Everybody in the team made a meaningful contribution. Whether it be with bat, ball or in the field. Each player played their part in delivering a win against a team that, in the away version of this fixture, saw WCC well beaten.

WCC won the toss and chose to bat. Set against a forecast of scattered showers, this felt like the right thing to do. As it would see the opposition having to bowl and field with a wet ball.

JH and TB started well against some very disciplined bowling with TB playing some lovely front foot drives before being bowled by a fast, straight ball. OM was unlucky to face a sharp yorker (but he was set to feature later with the ball). HC joined JH at the crease and they, together, saw off some very good bowling (19 consecutive dot balls). JH, as his mandatory retirement drew near, struck some good boundaries. He was replaced by OI who managed to work a number of balls to the boundary. HC's defences were finally broken with a straight call. The same fate befell Oscar very shortly afterwards.

This meant it was TW and WR at the crease. WR was calling some great fast singles and TW was hitting the ball hard. They put on nearly 30 runs before a remarkable piece of fielding by a Falkland player with a direct throw saw TW runout. EP arrived and joined in the sharp running before WR fell bringing OJ in for just 2 ball. At the end of the WCC innings a score of 101 felt like a fair reward and a total that could be defended.

In the field, everybody made a contribution.

The openers kept the Falkland batters very honest. WR blowing their No. 2 batter in his first over. The team, as a fielding unit, were sharp and worked hard to keep the run rate down. But the score was building and so, when WR bowled their well set opener it felt like a crucial wicket.

Equally crucial was the standard and tempo of the fielding. This was complimented by the bowling of EP who had moved from 'Keeper to bowler with stunning success. Equally as impressive was TW who, has genuine and daunting pace. But credit to Falkland they are building the score and wickets were not falling.

The next change of bowling saw OM start well before OI broke their 50 run partnership with a straight ball hitting the stumps. . As is so often the case in cricket...one wicket can quickly become two! In this case it was 2 in one over for OM including an LBW claiming their set batsmen. Then, in then next over, it was 2 more wickets for WCC with a run out and an epic diving catch by HC from the bowling of OI.

Not it was time for one of the newer members of the team. TP sent down an arrow straight first ball that hit the stumps. Suddenly, and visibly, you could see the team really believe they could win. The moved faster and, with great energy, applied real pressure by chasing very ball. With the final overs drawing nearer and Falklands having their best batter able to return having retired earlier...it was going to be close.

But TB stepped up and mopped up the tail and the returning batter with two perfect straight balls. Both hitting the stumps.

It was a genuinely great game of cricket. WCC thoroughly deserved their victory and they won it as a team. A really inspiring team performance.
