Today saw a great team effort with every player from the Under 13s making a real contribution to a thrilling victory.

The team assembled for 0830 with some of the boys having been involved in a scout camp. So there were some tired bodies at the start of the day but... the team warmed up well and soon showed they were wide awake. Captain Theo won the toss and chose to bowl. A wise decision as the sun was soon warm and this saved the team from fielding in the late morning heat.

A strong opening partnership from SMB was soon broken by Theo who clean bowled the batter in the third over. This energised the team with Olly providing plenty of encouragement to all. Thomas and Daniel who have recently joined the club were working hard in the field. Olly then bowled a lovely straight ball for an LBW. Not long afterwards it was for the two Under 11s who joined the team for the day to bowl.

Fred (brother of Theo) ran in well as did Oscar I who grabbed a run out from his won bowling . Helping secure a wicket was Eddie who bowled out the next SMB batter before the final wicket of the SMB innings was taken with a sharp catch by Fred from Oscar I'd bowling. Special shout out to El who kept very well in the baking sun. So at the break SMB had set a target of 139. A good score.

Opening the batting, Tristan was undone by a great in-swinging ball. This bought Oscar M to the crease with Theo. Together they ran singles, hit boundaries and built a great partnership of 63 runs that was only broken by the retirement of Theo (32 from 19 balls). This meant the platform was established with Eddie and Finn (who later retired not out) continuing the momentum before Eddie fell LBW he was soon followed by Oscar I (caught behind).

The pressure was now back on WCC and Fred and El calmly kept the scoreboard ticking over with some big hits and some sharp tuning. Tow overs to go it was 12 runs required from 12 balls. But some big hits by El and Fred meant the target was reached with just 3 balls to spare.

It really was a great team effort. When fielding every player chased hard, backed up and worked together. Perhaps the best sight was the whole team sat together watching final overs cheering every run. Thank you also to Martha for her great work on the scoreboard.
