The first match of the season saw a real team effort, with the Under 13 Mixed Cup side enjoying a great result thanks to a fantastic performance against strong opposition. Not only that but we also welcomed two debutants: Flo, a regular from the under-13 girls’ team, and Owen, a new member of the club.

Whitchurch fielded first, with every member of the team making a genuine contribution. Ethan played a great first game as wicketkeeper while the bowling line-up saw regular wickets fall to Flo, Cody, Wilf, Johnny and Percy. As a result, the opposition were bowled out in just the 14th over for 91. Our strong bowling performance and regular wickets meant Felix didn’t get the chance to bowl, but he was excellent in the field.

In response, our opening batters fell to two excellent deliveries, bringing Oscar and Ethan in early. Oscar batted well and built a solid score, while Ethan adapted brilliantly, shifting from risky all-out attack to a more controlled approach, playing some superb shots to point and third man. Both retired on 30, and after a couple of quick wickets, it was left to Flo and Felix to see us over the line—which they did confidently.

A genuine team performance, with everyone making a meaningful contribution, and a great start to the season. Thank you to Chris for umpiring Matthew for scoring.
