Almost 300 runs were scored in a baking lunchtime fixture against Eversley CC as bat dominated ball throughout.

Losing the toss and being asked to field WCC started brightly with a wicket in the third over from left arm quick Madeleine, sending the stumps pinging back with a full straight delivery. Eversley then rebuilt steadily with surviving some hostile bowling from Oscar and Percy with the ball regularly sneaking through the field and racing to the boundary on a lighting fast outfield. The next breakthrough came when debutant Cody trapped Eversley's number 3 plumb LBW for his first ever wicket. An excellent bowler in the making and we shall watch his career with great interest.

Eversley continued to accumulate and despite some excellent work in the field and two further late wickets for Madeleine, they reached the imposing score of 152-4 off their 20 overs. Creditable mention to Ethan deputising behind the stumps for the day.

152 was a good score but you never know until both teams have batted.

Percy and Wilf opened the batting for Whitchurch and took the score past the 50 mark without loss. Great reward for both boys who have worked so hard over the winter. Wilf departed for 14 shortly thereafter with Oscar taking his place and scoring a rollicking 32 not out of only 21 balls. .. 50 needed off 7 overs. Game on?

Almost. Percy and new partner Ethan rotated the strike as best as they could faced with accurate bowling and solid fielding. Percy retired on 30 not out after a great anchor role. Despite their best efforts the run rate had climbed steadily and even with Jonny, Henry, Harry and Madeleine all swinging hard the team came up 11 runs short.

A splendid game played in the right spirit.. Who would be a bowler on a hot day?
