WCC Under 15s registered their first win of the season at Easton & Martyr Worthy CC in the Regional Cup North. This sets up a quarter final away at either Bishops Waltham or Compton & Chandlers Ford.

WCC batted first and set a strong foundation with excellent knocks from ZB (retiring on 40 of 49 balls) and MM (32 of 43) in particular. Easton were no slouches in the field and our lads did a great job exploiting the gaps and playing in the V for quick and consistent singles.

At change of innings we were clear that the route to winning was to keep it tight on extras and really focus on mobility in the field to ensure everyone could stay sharp and build team energy as the evening wore on. Like us, Easton had two players who stood out batting on the day and made good scores. But the rest we made short work of, with wickets shared around for BI, ZB, MD (2) showing off his nicely-developing leg-spin, HB, GR and, to finish them off, WR combining with an absolute worldy catch from LJ at cover. We’ll remember that for many years to come ! Job done inside 16 overs and everyone took a huge buzz from the success as we departed. Such a great feeling.

A special mention to the super-fan GB who turned up even though injured with his broken thumb to offer support and advice from the boundary. Get well soon and thank you!

The game was played in wonderful spirit from both sides. Over recent years we have visited ‘The Pringle’ many times and always enjoy the trip to this beautiful, quintessential Hampshire ground. Thanks Easton – and best of luck for your season.
