The Government is proposing to remove Sport England as a statutory consultee for planning applications. This proposal could have serious consequences for the protection of cricket pitches from development. Without Sport England’s statutory role, our club and our game risks losing a vital safeguard.
Sport England’s involvement does not block development, but it ensures that designs are appropriate and that the financial burden falls on developers rather than community clubs. Each year, over 400 cricket grounds are affected by planning applications requiring consultation and response.
