The U13 girls started the season knowing they were the younger side in their age group and that stepping up to hardball cricket would be a challenge. What they have achieved over the past few months has been fantastic.

The season began with a defeat to St Cross, with only seven players available. But the girls took it in their stride, worked hard at training and improved week after week. Six new players joined along the way and fitted seamlessly into the squad – it has been great to see the team grow in confidence and their personalities shine.

The highlight was undoubtedly the final game against St Mary Bourne. Bowling first, the girls took four wickets and worked hard in the field as St Mary Bourne posted a strong 136 from 20 overs.

The chase was where the girls really showed what they could do. Georgia and Martha put on a brilliant 54-run partnership, including eight boundaries. Martha retired before Ruby came in and scored an excellent 32, with six boundaries and a huge six that hit the pavilion roof! Serafina, Scarlett and Sofia kept the momentum going, with the target eventually chased down in just 14.1 overs.

It was a brilliant team performance and the perfect way to secure the league title. The girls are now back-to-back league champions – a wonderful achievement for a team that has developed so much over the season.

Opposition coaches have also commented on the quality of the girls’ cricket, which is a lovely reflection of how far they have come. A huge thank you to the girls, coaches and parents for their hard work and support throughout the season.
