The Wolverines

The season is on the horizon now, We're excited to get back out there and hopefully get a full season of cricket in. 'Whats new for Whitchurch this year?' I hear you ask..... The Wolverines have expanded. Much like my waistline during lockdown, we have got significantly larger.

The Wolverines debut season last year was as expected. Short but successful. The key focus being developing kids interested in cricket to becoming fully fledged mini Joe Root's. Some words from youth Coordinator Chris Judge on the upcoming season are below.

We are hoping to offer cricket for four age groups this coming outdoor season

  • Whitchurch Wolverines Under 11s (max age of school years 5 & 6*). Competitive League cricket matches against other teams from early May and weekly training. Outdoors once the weather permits. Indoors otherwise, once rules allow.

  • Whitchurch Wolverines Under 9s (max age of school year 4*). Competitive League cricket matches against other teams from early May and weekly training. Outdoors once the weather permits. Indoors bi-weekly otherwise, once rules allow.

  • Under 8s (school years 3 and mature year 2s). Once weekly first stage cricket training. Likely to run May - mid July. Either the ECB Dynamos programme or our own version. TBC.

  • ECB Allstars (cricket based introductory activities for ages 5-8). Once weekly, likely to run May - mid July.

* +2 additional years for girls, as set out under ECB rule.

We would love to hear from you if you are interested in becoming a coach or helper for any of these programmes. We have vacancies at all levels, particularly for the Allstars programme, which is a fantastic opportunity to support the development of young children and to shape the future the cricket in Whitchurch. The current under 11s and under 9s teams are nearly all Allstars graduates.

We really look forward to hearing from you. You can use the chat link on the website or email us on WCC200Yrs@outlook.com

Thanks All.
