The Captains Column

With the start of the league season fast approaching, I have never seen Parsonage Meadow looking so nice, and can’t believe that we have been having to water the square in mid-April, lets hope that this lovely weather continues to allow a full season to be played.

Whilst working on the ground it has been lovely to see so many people using the ground for dog walking and entertaining their children and its even more pleasing to see Judgey and his group of merry men and women carrying out organised training sessions with the different age groups.

We now have power at the ground for the first time and this has opened up a load of new opportunities moving forward, but most importantly allows us to have cold beer.

Our first pre-season friendly took place on Saturday against a strong Wherwell side, and to see them all warming up before the game, I feared the worst, having lost the toss and been put into bat, a very strong opening partnership between two members of Team T, backed up by a further strong contribution by Mitch (the force is strong in that one) left us with a very respectable 251 for 1. This was followed up by some quality bowling and even with some rusty fielding we managed to bowl them out with the last ball of their innings for 201. What a great start beating a team that play a division above us.

I am looking forward to welcoming Berkshire Royals to Parsonage Meadow this coming Saturday and let’s see if we can make it two out of two.

With the country slowly coming out of the Covid restrictions, I look forward to seeing lots of

spectators over the next few months and am looking forward to playing lots of cricket.

All the best,

Skipper
